Things You Need To Know About Vietnam Vets Donations

By William Fox

Vietnam veterans are soldiers who were serving the armed forces of the United States and the allied countries during Vietnam War. This includes who were stationed in Vietnam and those who were not as long as they were part of it. United States and the allied countries lost the war and had suffered heavy casualties during those battles.

This is the reason that many veterans are now suffering from disabilities and can not make ends meet after their service has ended. Some even are experiencing post traumatic stress disorder also known as PTSD making readjusting to society harder to do. This is why Vietnam vets donation are important for them to receive.

Almost fifty thousand veterans does not have any place they can call home and sleeps either on the street or in common houses dedicated to them. This is because they do not have a family of their own anymore or are estranged with theirs. Some reasons of them being estranged is because of their problems to readjust to society.

One of these problems is having post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD which one in five vets are suffering from. This is a mental disorder caused by a traumatic event such as the war they have experienced. The symptoms include a person having disturbing thoughts, feelings or dreams related to the traumatic event.

Another problem is their disability they got from the time they were serving the armed forces which is making it harder for them to live. The usual disabilities are dismembered limbs either one or more of them so some of them use prosthetic or wheelchairs to move around. This is why there are vet centers dedicated to help them.

Services are given by the government for them including benefits like cash compensations if they were deemed eligible. One of the factors of eligibility is if the injuries they had received, either mental or physical, is because of their war service. But these are not enough specially those who are not eligible enough that is why donations are highly needed.

Donations could come in different form, either financial or by kind, and is given to organizations that are dedicated to helping them. The donations you would give are not meant only for the veterans but also to the people who are living with them. Some examples of these are household items, clothing, electronic devices, toys, small furniture and toys.

Events are being organized also to raised funds in helping organizations provide services that they badly need. These include funding for medical treatment needed for their injuries as well as buying medical devices or equipment like wheelchairs and prosthetic. These events are a way also for them to see and reunite with their former compatriots to be updated about each other.

So it is important for people to reach out a helping hand to those who had suffered the effects of wars specially the ones who have no one with them anymore. Donating is only a part of this and there are other ways you can assist them. The government must also do their part to provide benefits to those who really need them.

You Can Take A Meaningful Vacation With Vietnam Mission Trips

By Deborah Smith

Not all young people are interested in spending their summers after graduation at the beach or at some elaborate theme park. Many of them are curious about the world and want to learn more about different cultures by doing something constructive and positive when they travel abroad. These young adults may not be certain what they want to do with the rest of their lives, but they are sure giving back to the global community will be part of it. For them volunteer Vietnam mission trips are a great way to start.

Volunteers to parts of Asia, Africa, and South America have a chance to see first hand how natives in small communities live, work, and cope with everyday challenges like not enough clean drinking water and the lack of basic sanitation most Americans don't even think about. These excursions are very affordable, but the packages do not are not all inclusive. Volunteers must pay for their own travel expenses and insurance, any inoculations required, and spending money.

Volunteers don't have to have advanced degrees to make a difference in the area they choose to visit. Those who are interested in teaching for instance, can help a local educator in the classroom with literacy, English language, and vocational training. Licensed teachers may be able to teach independently.

For those with a passion for the environment, there are packages that focus on jungle and coastal conservation programs and organic farming operations. Volunteers are expected to actively participate in the work being done which often includes getting hot and dirty. Volunteers work closely with community leaders and with international organizations dedicated to preserving the environment.

Conserving and protecting native species is an important area where many volunteers are placed. They may work with noted conservationists and learn the latest techniques being implemented to help improve and preserve fragile ecosystems. Domestic animals are often abandoned and roam villages and communities. Some volunteers work with local agencies to round up these dogs and cats and place them in shelters.

Artists and musicians often volunteer to teach their skills to classrooms of children. They may teach the basics needed to play native instruments or paint with found materials. Community centers are also places where creative individuals can share their talents with adults.

Volunteers are needed to assist with elder and special needs care and education. In addition to teaching classes, individuals are enlisted to assist with physical therapy sessions and personal grooming. Families often have few resources when it comes to caring for family members with special needs. Some communities have social services centers where people, who can't care for themselves, gather during the day. Volunteers help man the centers and assist the clients.

Volunteers provide a vital function in many poor communities around the world. Where money and resources are scarce, these people fill a void. In turn, the volunteers learn valuable life lessons and gain a unique perspective on the world.
