A Daily Dread Dose Of Horrifying Movie Reviews

Is horror your favorite movie genre? There are so many horror titles in the market that are great thrillers. Hollywood has really pushed us to the edge by delivering nerve cracking horror titles at their best. To those who love a shot of daily dread, lets us look at The Exorcist, a horrific movie that has shone over years.

The 1973 American horror film adapted from Peter Blattys 1971 novel that had the same name. This novel was inspired by Ronald Doe case of exorcism in 1949. The movie storyline talks of a mother who is desperate to win back her demon possessed 12-year-old girl through exorcism that is conducted by two priests.

Warner Bros Production Company released the movie towards the end of 1973. The movie was well received and got nominated for Academy Awards in ten categories. It won the Best Adapted Screenplay Category and Best Sound Mixing category. Viewers across USA and Britain have voted it as one of the scariest movies of all times.

The film starts where a catholic priest who goes by the name Lankester Merrin who is seen excavating an archeological site in Iraq. He stumbles across an amulet that resembles a statute of a demon called Pazuzu. He had defeated the demon and banished him a few years back. He gets to know that the demon has come back to avenge his banishing.

We are also taken to one Chris Mac Neil, a famous actor who lives in Washington with her daughter. In the movie, she plays Ouija board with the teen daughter called Regan. She is about 12 years of age. Out of the blues, Regan starts behaving funny. She starts making deafening sounds, uses obscene language, and becomes overly strong. She even continually shakes her bed much to the horror of her mother.

The horrified mother seeks assistance from several physicians who perform a series of tests on her. Unfortunately, they do not find anything medically wrong with her and are not aware that Pazuzu has possessed her. A few nights later, Regan kills her babysitter and her mothers director, Burke Dennings. A detective called Kinderman is called in to investigate the murder. The detective interviews Regans mother and a priest turned heathen called Karras.

Doctors finally give up on Regan and exorcism seems the only way out. Chris asks Karras the priest to help her alongside Merrin. Karras at first declines but soon agrees after he finds a plea for help on Regan stomach and a recording where Regan talks in reverse.

The two priests are unable to exorcise the demon. It mocks them in the process even abusing Karras dead mother. Karras leaves after sometime. Merrin is left to deal with the demon. However, after some time Karras comes in only to find Merrin dead. He pleads with the demon to leave Regan and enter him instead. He sacrifices his life by jumping over a window and dying out of head injuries. This banishes Pazuzu from earth. Regan feels better after sometime and returns home. Kinderman, befriends her to help unveil why Karras died. This is a real thriller.
